"A section of ward committee members at the launch"

3 August 2016

The Story Workshop Educational Trust (SWET) on Tuesday, August 2, 2016  launched the Tilitonse Deepening Democracy project  at Ekwendeni CCAP, in Mzuzu. The project which is being piloted in the cities of Blantyre and Mzuzu is being implemented by SWET in partnership with mHub and CCODE with funding from Tilitonse. The goal of the project is to empower citizens for accountable, transparent, responsive and inclusive service delivery. The launch was graced by the mayor of the city of Mzuzu, his worship William Mkandawire and the Chief Executive of Mzuzu City Council Dr. Macloud Kadam'manja. The Mzuzu launch just like the one in Blantyre two weeks ago involved bringing together members of ward committees for a four-day long Boot Camp. During the Boot Camp 40 members of Masasa and Zolozolo ward committees were equipped with knowledge on governance policies, their right to development and the duties of their elected leaders and service providers. The citizens were also sensitised on the use of the Mzinda Platform through which they can send messages and engage with their elected leaders as well as reach out to ESCOM, Water Board and City Councils with reports on the status of service delivery in their respective areas.
