31 July 2016

Lilongwe City Councilors were on Monday, 25th July 2016 trained in the use of ICT to engage with citizens. The training was conducted by mHub and Citizens for Justice under the ICT for Citizen Engagement Project being funded by OSISA. The training brought together 24 Councilors including the Mayor and his deputy. The councilors were sensitised on the existence of the Mzinda Platform through which citizens can send sms's and web reports with regards service delivery in their respective areas.

The Councilors were trained on how they would access the reports both online through the web platform aswel as through their phones by just sending a message requesting reports for their respective areas. Lilongwe City Mayor, His Worship Willie Chapondera commended the initiative and said he belived it will go a long way in fostering the participation of citizens in development. Through the Mzinda Platform citizens can report on issues to do with service delivery and engage with their Councilors, Members of Parliament, City Councils, ESCOM and WaterBoard. They just have to send an sms to +265 888 242 063, sign up on mzinda.com or share on facebook.
